Wardrobe

Wardrobe examples

An example of capsule wardrobe for women which can be used for any day occasion is the following: the colors are navy, grey, red, and white.

  • A two piece suit with gown, navy
  • A grey gown
  • A grey pair of pants
  • A red blazer
  • A navy or grey cardigan
  • A red blouse, designer or very good quality
  • A white shirt, designer, couture, excellent quality
  • A grey V neck sweater
  • A navy turtleneck
  • A red swing wrap or big scarf

If you combine two or three of these pieces you can be sure to be well dressed for any occasion. The same wardrobe can also work using different combinations of color, like dark brown, rust, ivory, yellow-orange, or camel, ivory, aqua, and peach.

And this is an example of a capsule professional wardrobe for men. The colors are: navy, grey, white, icy blue, icy green, blue-green (background color for the tie).

  • A two piece suit dark grey
  • A medium grey pair of trousers
  • A navy blazer
  • A white shirt
  • A white and icy blue thin striped shirt
  • An icy green shirt
  • A tie, blue-green background, paisley pattern
  • An icy blue polo (to be worn under the suit or blazer on Saturday morning for business)
  • A grey or icy green cachemire cardigan ( to be worn only under the blazer if one is cold)

You can combine three or four of these items and be professionally dressed, from casual to more dressy.

Casual Dress

Casual attire has replaced the traditional way of dressing in many professional settings. Casual dress is more varied than traditional dressing, more flexible and more suited in certain work situations.

  • It’s easier to dress traditionally than casually. Casual dress is made of separates and it takes more skills to put together a look that works for professional life.
  • Casual dress doesn’t mean that you can put on to work the same kind of clothes you wear on your leisure time. It’s not about wearing jeans, t-shirt and sweater at the office.
  • To dress casually means that you are not dressed with a traditional suit but what you put on projects the same power of the traditional business look.
  • For men, it may mean to wear trousers with pleats, shirt with a button collar open (tie optional) or turtleneck, and a jacket (blazer, tweed jacket,…), belt and accessories.
  • For women, a pant suit or a dress and blazer, or separates well coordinated and accessorized.
  • For both men and women, the shoes are not loafers or sneakers, but a more dressy kind of shoe.
  • Casual doesn’t mean sloppy.
