In presenting ourselves publicly there
are elements under our control.
These elements are evaluated and
judged almost automatically.
We first receive visual stimuli,
which are much more powerful than any other stimulus. We form an
impression of other people largely based on appearance, and then
we evaluate if we like them or we don’t.
Which are the factors we pay
attention to when we try to understand and evaluate others?
There are physical characteristics like sex, size, beauty,
expression and look.
And there are elements of the personality, like liveliness
and animation, energy and confidence.
When we know which are the
elements that others use to measure us up and judge us, we can learn
to use them to make the best presentation of ourselves, a
presentation in accord with the way we see ourselves and that can
influence positively the persons we have to meet.
