Makeup/Hair
Makeup
Makeup
can create a more attractive image and improve self-esteem. The
use of makeup can help you create a better body image, if the process
is seen as a game and not as something compulsory.
All women presented as role
models for other women are made up – in movies, television, glossy
magazines. There is the habit of telling women that without makeup
they look tired, washed out, without face. Real emotions and problems
can be so wiped out under a layer of makeup. The media have done
a very good job in overturning the public image of makeup. Before
the ‘20s a woman who openly wore makeup was considered promiscuous
and licentious by the “good” society.
Research shows that to put
on makeup has some consistent effects. First, women are seen as
more beautiful and feminine, and, second, the majority of women
feels better with makeup, because they feel more confident. As a
consequence, because social pressures are strong, it would be helpful
to know the makeup basics to fell good with one’s image.
You may believe that to transform
a face and make it more attractive is a very difficult process,
but if you have the necessary products and tools, and some techniques
with which to start experimenting, you may find it fun.
It’s better to have a few more
products, than not to have an indispensable item. If you use the
products with a light hand and blend them well, you will create
a natural and soft face.
Even for an important evening,
which may require a more sophisticated look, it is vital that the
appearance is natural and not artificial. For those more important
occasions, you will simply intensify the colors – well blended,
anyway - to achieve a spontaneous look. From my point of view there
are no cosmetics for the evening. All that a woman has to do is
to intensify the application; in other words, make the eyes stronger,
more highlighting, more contouring, or more color on the lips.
Makeup should not conceal the
skin; it should simply enhance its beauty. The skin, which is the
basis, has to be as healthy as possible.
In general:
- Makeup should always enhance and not be contrived.
- Your goal is to emphasize your assets, not to conceal or camouflage
real or imaginary flaws.
- The difference between day and night is intensity.
- The stronger the color of lipstick, the more important is to
define the lip contour.
- Shiny or pearlized foundation enhances creases around the eyes
and mouth and creates a sweaty look.
- Shine enhances creases, spots, and sags.
- If you are very young and your skin is perfect you can apply
some shiny highlight, above the cheek bones toward the temples,
and on the eyes.
- Shine has to be used in small dosage and only if the skin is
fresh.
- Lighten makeup during Summer, especially if you are tanned.
- Don’t try to match eyeshadows to the color of your outfit.
Eyeshadows have to be matched to the color of your eyes and not
to the color of dresses.
- Eyeshadow colors should be subtle and not loud. Bright colors
will make the color of your eyes go into the background.
- Foundation should always match the color of your skin. Dark
foundations used to make the skin more tanned, look false. Better
to use a “terra” or a dark color of rouge on the natural skin
without covering it all, but playing with dark and light. The
effect will be more natural as if you’ve been a day in the sun.
Don’t use colors too dark for your skin tone. If you are white,
you cannot use dark brown, but a dark beige.
