Makeup/Hair
Hair
To create
the image you want, a good hairstyle is fundamental. To have the
flattering hairstyle you like you need two things: to know what’s
good for your face and a sensitive and knowledgeable hairdresser.
Women
Hairstyle and Hairstylist
Speak to your hairdresser
about yourself, how you live, of your hair and its peculiarities.
If he wants to cut bangs and you don’t like them, ask him to offer
you alternatives. If you have little time to prepare yourself ask
for a cut you can manage by yourself easily. You have to tell him
if you can use brush and hairdryer, if you want a versatile cut
you can change if you need to, how often you shampoo. If there is
something you want to try, show it with pictures and discuss it
together, because it could be wrong or right for you.
Don’t be afraid to ask what
he will do before he starts. Ask how the hairstyle will complement
your long (or short) neck. Is it going to soften your square jaw?
Help your nose? How often do you go to the hairdresser? Keep in
mind that a cut that needs to be continually adjusted is not very
practical.
Shape of the face
If your face is regular (or,
as it commonly defined, oval) you have many possibilities, conditioned
only by your hair texture. For all other shapes – square, long,
round, triangular – the general principle is not to choose a
cut or shape that repeats the shape of the face. Often it’s
difficult to match one’s face to the shapes experts talk about,
unless the shape of the face is easily recognizable. There is not
a perfect face, and the only secret is balance.
Here are some tips:
- Very short and tight hair emphasize the shape of the face.
A full head puts more the attention on hair than on the face.
- If the face is full, it can be helped by a long hairstyle and
an asymmetrical cut.
- A “bowl” cut will make a round face more round.
- If the face is too long, bangs help shorten it.
- If your nose is prominent you can balance it tightening your
hair in a chignon or pony tail, leaving some bangs on the forehead.
- If you do not want to emphasize the nose, avoid central partings,
which attract attention to the center of the face.
- Short and curly hairstyles are complementary to a short forehead.
- A strong jaw can be softened with hair chin length.
- People with a receding chin must avoid cuts which end at the
chin, emphasize the upper part of the head, and keep hair full
on the neck.
- Hairstyle and cut should be decided looking in a mirror that
reflects the whole figure to evaluate its proportions.
Every hairstyle needs upkeep.
It is better to let your life style dictate your hairstyle, or you’ll
become slave of your hair and you’ll not enjoy all the possible
benefits. Especially if you work and have little time it’s better
to opt for haircuts that include style.
Men
Accurate and well shaped cuts,
short or rather flat, back combed or crew cut are the best for a
classic professional image. Longer cuts, romantic and long hair
with bangs on the face are better for more creative jobs and for
private life.
Moustache and beard (especially
if they cover the entire face), bangs and hair on the face communicate
you need to hide something you don’t like or camouflage something.
No: to a white or salt
and pepper beard or goatee with dark hair. It makes you look older.
No: to too long or too
short sideburns.
No: to parting your hair
over one ear and comb long strands over a bald spot. It’s better
to present one’s baldness with confidence than trying to hide it
If your hair is only slightly
receding you can keep it very short and combed forward.
If you have very little hair on
a bald head it’s better to shave it. It will be less evident.
If you have thinning hair it is
better to keep it short and always freshly cut.
Cut regularly hair every three-four
weeks to keep the cut fresh and the same image. If you have a lot
of hair you must keep under control, you don’t need more volume.
In general, hair volumes have
to be contained and the length has to be short or semi-long.
Some men dye their hair to cover
grey. It’s very important that the color looks natural; it has to
be done impeccably and often (better not to leave it on for too
long, but do it more often). Because dyes contain peroxide, many
products tend to enhance red, color not flattering for Winters and
Summers who must choose ash colors – while they look good on Autumns
and Springs.
The main thing in dying it’s not to bring the color back to the
original shade of youth, but to eliminate the white highlight, the
translucent quality of white hair. There are dyes on the market
which can give a lighter color than the original but cover the grey
hair. Beards can be dyed of a tone lighter than hair. The contrary
doesn’t look so good.
